GILDROY, MISS MARY URSULA, 9782 55th Ave. St. Petersburg, retired telephone engineer with Illinois Bell Telephone Chicago, Parks From 1-B many people visited the park in 1971-72, Work estimated. Howard Park west of Tarpon Springs added a half-million visitors in just one year. The park study shows that 272,965 people visited Howard in 1968-69; by 1969-70, that figure soared to more than 830,000.

Today Howard Park is the second most popular park in the county. There is a similar success story for every county park. ANDERSON PARK in north Pinellas is almost up to 500,000 attendance after it started in 1965 with only Lake Seminole Park, the county's youngest park, drew 618,995 people to its boating and picnicking facilities in 1971-72, which means that it is getting three times the use it did during its opening year of 1967. In 1967-68, the eight county parks served 2,929,571 people. In only five years, that figure doubled to 4,699,847.

Work may feel that the county is cramped for park space now, but every projection for the future predicts more boaters, more picnickers and more sunbathers. Responding to the increased demand, the Pinellas County Commission Dec. 14 ordered an immediate appraisal of 496 acres of possible park land, with special attention given to 212 acres of land recommended by Work.
