All entries Avill close to C. F. Walker, Honorable Secretary, at 6 o'clock on Mondaj, the 20th of January, and must be accompanied hy entrance fee. Every person must ride in colors which must be started at time of entry. Any person not riding in col ors or riding in wrong colors will be fined $5 which must be paid before he Avill be alloAved to start.

lirange droves. Cultivating Crov Died. January 19th at the residence of her soa, Thomas Stansfield, Fort Meade, Mary, widow of the late John Stansfield of South port, Lancashire, England, aged 76 years. Mrs. Stansfield came to Florida about a year and a half ago and since then has resided with her son in Fort Meade.

She had been in poor health for the last two months and has been confined to her bed. She was attended during her late illness by Dr. Wee ins who though doing everything that thoughtful kindness and medical skill could suggest, was from the beginning unable to hold out any hopes of her final recovery. During her lingering illness Mrs. Stansfield was mercifully spared all suffering and sank to rest at eleven o'clock on Sunday morning, deeply regretted by her many friends and sorrowing relatives.

The funeral which was largely attended took place at 11 o'clock Monday, Rev. Siddon reading the burial service. The bereaved family lias our sincerest sympathies in its aftliction. A well attended meeting of the St. Andrews' Brotherhood was held on Monday night in the room of the president, Mr.

M. Shawe. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted, the finance committee presented their report and it was unanmously decided to send out an urgent appeal for funds for the support of Christ Church. It was also decided that a series of entertainments should be held as soon as arrangements could be made to procure a piano, to raise funds for general church work in this vicinity. Johnston on returning home between twelve and one a. in. from a neighbors' house found his residence in (lames and got to the scene just in time to see the roof falling in. Mr. Johnston had that evening returned from Fort Meade and brought with him about six months' provisions, which he had purchased, all of which were burned.

He was about to build a new houre. and the lumber for it was all piled around the house he was living in, but fortunately he was able to save that, though he had a hard fight for it. The loss is about 600. A meeting of the shareholders of the Fort Meade Street Railway was held on Tuesday with the follow in" present: President, vice-president, secretary, general manager and shareholders representing eighty-three shares. The annual reports of the secretary and treasurer were presented and approved.

George Rogers was in from Bufiin on Monday and says that the late frosts have hurt nothing I except tomatoes which were pretty badly injured. There is a rumor in town that the Progress is about to change hands. It is said that Mr. Dawson of Avon Park is going to buy out Mr. Dickinson, the present proprietor.

Cap. Lang ford is supplying a long felt want in town, by sending around -every morning a wagon loaded with fresh vegetables which meet with a rapid sale. Mr. Freeman is busily engaged in 'v moving some trees for Capt. Perry from his business lot on Broad street, to ono of his resident lots near the Methodist church.

James Stephens had a sugar boiling on Fridaj' last. Nearly all the boys in town went to it. They had a splendid time, and the next day there was nothing to be heard but praises of Mr. Stephens' hospitality and what a good time they had had. There was an exhibition of mustang riding last week opposite Lightsey Lewis' stable.

Jack Evans wns the jockey. The only fault the spectators could find with it was that it did not last long enough. The engagement of iss Rica Ma is of Macon, to Mr. Benjamin Brown, of Tampa, has been announced. Miss Mass spent several months at the Adams House some years ago, and was one of the Tampa refugees in the yellow fever scourage. Her many friends in Fort Meade wish her unlimited happiness.
