Bynum slipped out of the Bucher apartment with the child and asked several persons in the neighborhood to 'drive her home. She got a ride from Norbert Kowalski. By this morning, nearly 400 policemen were assigned to a. house-to-house search for clues to the kidnaping. Two of them, Detective Joseph Corcoran and Edward' Cagney, visited the Kowalski home and were told of the incident.

Kowalski took them to the Bynum apartment where the baby was found. Ronald was taken to his mother, and then to a hospital where examination showed him to be in good health. The Bynums came to Chicago four years ago from Elkhart, Mrs. Bynum's home town, where they were married. Bynum said he was born in Long-view, Texas.
