K. IlgenFritz's reaction to a new children's book 'Winona's Pony Cart," in which she finds herself and episodes from her own childhood and entire story. Reading about herself in a book isn't entirely a new experience because she has been "Winona" in all of the 14 Betsy Tacy books for children written by a life-long friend, Maud Hart Lovelace, and published by Thomas Y. Crowell Company. CHILDHOOD STORY The story is about Betsy and Tacy's friend, Winona, and her birthday wish for a pony.

What happens in the book is exactly what took place when Mrs. IlgenFritz was eight years old and a little black pony, Jingle, was her pet. Everything in the book is true and even the illustrations authentic. They were made from photographs loaned to the author by Mrs. IlgenFritz's sister.

As for Mrs. IlgenFritz, the story recalls to her, her mother and father, the latter editor of the Man-kato, (Minn.) Free Press," also her sisters and her pug dog, Toodles. It wasn't until after she had her children and was reading Mrs. Lovelace's Betsy-Tacy books; that Mrs. IlgenFritz discovered she was Winona in the book.

She hadn't seen the author in 30 years, so she called her, saying, "This is Winona." The interrupted jfriendship was resumed and Mrs. 'Lovelace, remembering the pony cart, Mrs. IlgenFritz's surprising birthday party when she invited many guests without her mother's that an art exhibition will be held at 27 Orange Street herd between Jan. 3 and 17.
